What is Sleep Apnoea?

Sleep Apnoea occurs when the muscles in your airways relax and block your airways while you sleep. This causes you to stop breathing for a short time until your brain wakes you up to begin breathing again. This can happen hundreds of times a night and will impact on the quality of your sleep and general health.

Sufferers may be unaware they have Sleep Apnoea and often it's feedback from a partner that brings the issue to light.

Broken sleep is known to be a contributing factor in workplace and traffic accidents and left untreated, Sleep Apnoea can lead to serious health issues including increased risk of stroke, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases.

What are the most common symptons of Sleep Apnoea?

  • Loud snoring
  • Episodes in which you stop breathing during sleep
  • Gasping for air during sleep which may wake you
  • Waking up with a dry mouth

During the day it can also result in:
